How to Check on an Air Conditioner Warranty

Save

Any time you buy a new air conditioner, it will have a limited-time warranty that covers certain parts and/or labor costs. During that limited time, if the unit needs to be repaired, you can refer to the warranty to find out what the company will pay for, and what part of the repair you'll be responsible for, if any. Upon your purchase of the item, the dealer will provide you with complete warranty documentation. If that information is not available, however, there are other methods you can use to check on your coverage.

Things You'll Need

  • Warranty certificate
  • Owner's manual
  • Retrieve the original warranty certificate from the file cabinet, lock box or other safe place you stored it in. Read the certificate to find out what is and what is not covered by the manufacturer in regard to parts and labor for repairs.

  • Contact the company you purchased the air conditioner from. The dealer may be able to tell you about your air conditioner warranty. They will have on record the specific model number, serial number and the date your unit was purchased/installed.

  • Contact the manufacturer of the unit via phone, email or mail. The manufacturer will be able to provide you with detailed information about the warranty on the air conditioner. The company's phone number and website address should be listed in the owner's manual. You may need to provide the model number, serial number and the date of purchase/installation if you did not register the air conditioner when you bought it.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you don't know the model number or the serial number of your air conditioner, the dealer or manufacturer can tell you where to find them on your unit.
  • If you purchased extended warranty coverage on the air conditioner, you must contact the company you purchased the warranty from, be that the manufacturer or an outside company.
  • The owner's manual may also contain warranty information.
