How to Make a Poofy Prom Dress

A poofy prom dress can be made in a similar fashion to making a bubble skirt or a poofy high-waist skirt. The process can start with a fitted bed sheet with some needle and thread. The fitted sheet can be stuffed with small balloons to help emphasize the poofiness that is needed for this prom dress. The goal is to create a dress with a fuller appearance that does not cling to the female figure, but is flowy and wide.

Things You'll Need

  • Purple fitted bed sheet
  • Needle
  • Thread
  • Purple small party balloons
  • Measuring tape

Make A Poofy Prom Dress

  • Measure the size of your chest above your bust with measuring tape.

  • Wrap fitted sheet around your body until it sits firmly over your bust.

  • Sew fitted sheet closed using needle and thread so that it is tight over your chest. The rest of the fitted sheet should sprawl out onto the floor.

  • Take small balloons and fill them with air. Tie the balloons closed at the top.

  • Sew the small balloons to the inside of the fitted sheet to add poofiness.

  • Gather the remaining fitted sheet sprawled on the floor and sew it inside the dress over the balloons to create additional poofiness.

Tips & Warnings

  • Straps may be necessary to hold the dress up, but the steps listed are for a strapless prom dress.
  • The balloons may pop by the end of the prom night.
