Instructions

    • 1

Place the large, flat cardboard box on top of the surface on which you will be working. This will create a flat, stable area for you to work.

    • 2

Organize and place all of the tools and materials you will be using on top of the cardboard surface. Most people like to keep their tools on their dominant side. So, for example, if you are right-handed all of your glue, needles and paints will be on the right side.

    • 3

Open the wooden airplane kit and remove the pieces. These model airplane kits can be found at most hobby stores. It simplifies the process by giving you prefabricated pieces that just need to be assembled.

    • 4

Lay out the pieces by airplane section. So, keep all the pieces that belong to the tail, wings and body in separate areas.

    • 5

Begin gluing pieces together. Finish each section of the plane separately before combining them to create the entire airplane. This will keep you organized and allow you to visualize what needs to be done next. For example, finish gluing all the pieces of the tail before attaching it to the body. The same process can be applied to the wings.

    • 6

Combine all the separate sections of the plane to create the finished airplane.

    • 7

Paint the model airplane with any design you wish. Get creative and try to customize each plane with a unique design or pattern.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use the pin needles to secure pieces together while they are drying. By pushing the pins through the pieces and into the cardboard, you can apply the force necessary to keep the pieces tightly together while they are drying. This will also keep the pieces from accidentally moving before the glue has completely hardened.

  • Be careful not to damage the wood. Most model airplanes are made of balsa wood which is very soft. Thus, it needs to be handled carefully in order to minimize unwanted gouges on the surface of the wood. This will increase the aesthetic value of the finished product.
