      Wash the cotton canvas. Use a brush along with soap and water to clean either the whole canvas fabric or particularly dirty places. Allow the canvas to air dry. Do not tumble-dry the canvas.

      Apply the cotton canvas waterproofing material, using one of several commercial products. Use a garden sprayer, a hand-pumped pressure sprayer, to apply the compound. You commonly make two applications separated by a drying time. Spray in a pattern that goes in opposite directions to decrease streaking or uneven application.

      Apply the cotton canvas waterproofing material with a brush. Use a disposable foam brush to apply the waterproofing material to the seams of the canvas. Allow the material to air dry.

Tips & Warnings

  • Follow the manufacturer's instructions when applying the waterproofing compound. The material is petroleum-based and does have an odor. Perform the waterproofing applications in a well-ventilated area or outdoors.
