How to Organize the Perfect Second Grade Classroom
The way in which your classroom is organized can have a large impact on the performance of your students. Classroom setup is one of the most important aspects of preparing for a new school year, and approaching the situation with convenience, usability and class size in mind will go a long way towards making the next year a success. While every teacher will likely elect to organize his or her classroom differently, a few common threads run through most successful classrooms.

1
Designate each area of your classroom as a specific activity area. For instance, writing should occur in one location, math activities in another, and reading in another. Providing your students with stations like this can split traffic and make fair use of limited resources.
-
2
Provide targeted bulletin boards engineered for specific purposes. For instance, one bulletin board can keep track of behavioral issues, while another can serve as a reminder to students of upcoming events or due dates. If you have a white board, use it to schedule each day's activities so students always know what is next.

3
Place your desk so that you can see each area of the classroom and have full view of the activities. This will help you to monitor your students even as they engage in independent play. Some teachers have gotten rid of their desks entirely to help make room in the class, though this method makes it harder to grade assignments.
-
4
Organize all of your classroom activities in boxes and on shelves. Ask students to put each activity away when they are finished using it to encourage good habits and keep the classroom organized.
-
5
Stick to a regular schedule. Young children thrive on schedules and if each of your classroom days is relatively predictable, they will feel more comfortable exploring their environment and working through your lessons. A regular schedule also helps second graders with potty breaks and waiting for lunchtime.
