To fix a Canon PC770 copier, you must troubleshoot the device.

The Canon PC770 copier is a complex photocopying machine that may require more than do-it-yourself fixes because of its many working parts. This is not to say that you cannot fix some problems, such as paper jams and so forth. But other, more complicated problems, such as a broken part or internal errors, will most likely require the services of a professional. But you can still isolate the problem through a troubleshooting process.

Instructions

    • 1

Take a look at the LCD screen, as it contains important information such as error codes, jammed paper messages plus open carrier messages. If you receive instructions concerning what to do in the control panel, follow the instructions, remove the jam or close the carrier and check the screen again. If is cleared, this means that you have fixed the error.

    • 2

Take note of the error codes displayed in the panel. Examples of error codes are "E000" and "E001." Go to a web page such as Visualhawk Solutions (see Resource section for page link) and find model 770 with a list of corresponding error codes. The code will have a definition. You can use this definition to try to repair the problem yourself or you can take the copier to a professional repair person and give them the error code information so that they will know exactly what problem to fix.

Check to see if you are having a jamming issue coming from either the paper cassettes or paper deck. If this is the case, then you have either a feed, pick-up or separation roller problem. These parts are not that expensive to replace, but it is advised to have a professional replace them for you.

Insert paper into the tray and begin a new copy job. If the document feeder takes in multiple sheets at once, then you have found the problem. Look for the small door on top of the document feeder and you should see a small square. This is the separation pad. You should have this part immediately replaced and professionally installed.
