Instructions

    • 1

Avoid application of high-nitrogen based fertilizers in the fall, mid-September to early December, and in the early spring from late February to early June. These are the seasonal time periods when the fungal disease is more likely to appear.

    • 2

Apply a seasonal fungicide to the affected areas. Mix the chemical according to label directions as various types of fungicides will have different mixing and application rates.

    • 3

Spray the diseased area with the fungicidal solution. Cover the disease areas that exceed the outlining brown patch.

    • 4

Irrigate the centipede grass during the early morning hours so the leaves have a chance to dry out before entering the evening hours.

    • 5

Take soil samples from several areas around the lawn if the problem persists. Deliver the dried soil to your local agricultural extension service for analysis. Follow the recommended treatment based upon the soil test results for your particular climate and soil conditions.

Tips & Warnings

  • Aerating the lawn will increase water and air drainage to the grass lawn. In some cases, the aeration methods may spread the fungus disease before the problem is corrected. Contact your local agricultural extension service for methods of lawn disease control, as different areas around the country may have various treatment methods and order of process. During some climate conditions, extremely heavy rainfall, control methods may not be effective until the weather pattern changes.
