Making a miniature home out of sticks can be a fun project for all ages. Whether you are basing your model on your own home or something from your imagination is up to you. The basic method is the same for both choices and it's how you finish the project off that will make all the difference.
Things You'll Need
- Craft sticks
- Wax paper
- Clear tape
- Craft knife
Draw pictures of how you want your house to look on all sides and from the top. Make a pattern on a piece of paper or card for each part of the house including the roof. Make the pattern the actual size.
Lay sticks along the floor pattern until it is completely covered. Run clear tape along them to secure them temporarily. Glue one side of more sticks and place them horizontally along the sticks that are forming the base of the house. These horizontal sticks are what will eventually stick the panel together so you should use as many as you feel are necessary to make the piece secure. When the glue is dry, remove the tape.
Repeat the process for the walls of the house. You may need to cut some sticks to length to form the windows and doors and remember that when you are attaching the horizontal lengths that you want to attach them to the side that will eventually be in the inside of the model.
Cut sticks to size and glue to the holes you have left for the doors and the windows to achieve a neat edge. If you want, make a door or window frame and stick it into the panel.
Lift the sides one by one into position and glue them to the base and to each other. Either tape the panels together or support them in some way until the glue dries.
Make the roof using the same method as for the base and the walls. The roof will be straightforward if it is flat but if you are making a pointed roof it is slightly more complicated. For a pointed roof make two panels that are big enough to create the effect that you want. Maybe you want one side longer than the other or at a different angle. Glue them together in the middle and support the roof until the glue is dry, then glue to the top of the house structure.
Decorate the model with paint or other materials.
