Cure Vaginal Infections Without Using Medications

Vaginal infections are most commonly caused by bacteria, trichomoniasis, yeast and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Treatment largely depends on the cause of the infection, but certain steps can be taken to relieve symptoms and - in many cases - to clear up the problem without prescription medication.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Eat yogurt. Buy the kind with the least amount of additives and make sure it has active cultures. Not only will it help your current infection, but studies show that eating yogurt regularly may help stave off infection in the first place.

  2. Step 2

Take acidophilus. Use as directed on the label and take on an empty stomach. It will help restore normal bacterial flora and control yeast growth.

  3. Step 3

Decrease or eliminate sugar. Avoid sweets of all kinds, including fruits, refined carbohydrates and sugary foods. Yeast feeds on sugar, so you want to cut off its food supply.

  4. Step 4

Decrease or eliminate alcohol, all fermented products, mushrooms, yeast and yeast-containing foods. This is to keep any more fungi from entering your system.

  5. Step 5

Use garlic as a suppository. Peel a garlic clove, wrap it in sterile gauze, lubricate it with vegetable oil and insert it into the vagina. Leave a piece of the gauze sticking out so you can locate it easily. Change the suppository every 12 hours. Garlic has powerful anti-fungal properties.

  6. Step 6

Make your own douches. Use herbs such as calendula, goldenseal, marshmallow root or yarrow. Make a strong tea using one or more of these herbs. Douche twice daily for a week.

  7. Step 7

Apply a tea-tree-oil cream to irritated and inflamed areas. It's effective against fungal infections, herpes blisters and other types of infection.

  8. Step 8

Use garlic juice and acidophilus as a douche. Mix two capsules of garlic or fresh garlic juice with a quart of warm water and use as a douche. Alternate with an acidophilus douche made by mixing two capsules of acidophilus in a quart of warm water.

  9. Step 9

Bathe with vinegar to relieve symptoms. Fill the tub about hip deep with warm water and add 1/2 c. vinegar. Soak with legs apart until water cools.

  10. Step 10

Take vitamin C. This will help build up your immune system.

  11. Step 11

Use garlic capsules to fight the infection, or try colloidal silver. It has antibiotic properties that reduce inflammation and promote healing.

  12. Step 12

Take biotin. It helps inhibit the growth of yeast.

Tips & Warnings
  • See a doctor if your symptoms don't improve or if they worsen. You may need medication if you have an STD or another type of infection.
  • Use condoms if you're not in a mutually monogamous relationship.
  • Apply pure aloe vera gel to relieve itching.
  • Use plain, unscented white toilet paper. Perfumes and dyes can cause irritation and inflammation.
  • Wash your underwear in hot water to kill the yeast. You can also microwave cotton panties. Soak in water, wring them out and then microwave on high for 30 seconds. Take care not to overdo it - you don't want your underwear going up in flames.
  • Avoid taking iron supplements while you have an infection. Bacteria needs iron to grow.
  • If you have any questions or concerns, contact a physician or other health care professional before engaging in any activity related to health and diet. This information is not intended as a substitute for professional medical advice or treatment.

on 5/21/2009 I think they should teach more women how to prevent the infections in the first place, rather than just selling them a cure. Take a look at http://www.liarmarketing.com/2009/05/21/preventing-vaginal-yeast-infection/ which has helped me A LOT!!

on 4/8/2009 I hope you all are fully aware of the risks that come along with douching. As far as I know, douching does more harm than good. Not only that, but women that douche get reoccuring infections, which causes them to douch more, possibly spreading the infection into their cervix, uterus, and fallopian tubes. This can cause trouble getting pregnant or trouble with future pregnancies. It's important to know the facts before you try a new treatment. Do research on douching before you try it.

on 9/16/2008 You can use garlic or diluted vinegar to clean the area. Did you also know that yogurt is a good remedy for yeast infection? I found this out at a site I visited at http://squidoo.com/yeastinfectionhelp. They have tons of information there about the cure of yeast infection.
