You can put an end to unwanted phone calls.

Telemarketers sell items or services over the phone. Many companies use telemarketing because it is fairly inexpensive as opposed to other forms of marketing. You may be receiving a lot of calls from telemarketers and feel frustrated. The fact is that telemarketers have many ways to get your information, even something as simple as signing up for a contest can put you on a list of numbers to be called. You can however, discourage telemarketers with some simple methods and finally put a stop to unwanted phone calls.

Instructions

    • 1

Tell the telemarketer to put you on their "do not call" list. Explain that you do not want to speak to them. The law states the telemarketer must comply with your request and place you on the list.

    • 2

Sign up for the National Do Not Call Registry. You can call 1-888-382-1222 or go online to the National Do Not Call Registry website. Once on the site, you can click on "Register a Phone Number." Your number will then be added to the national do not call list.

    • 3

Screen your calls. Look at your caller id. Do not pick up unknown numbers. You may still receive calls after being placed on the do not call list. It can take up to 30 days to remove your number.

    • 4

Get an unlisted phone number. This can cut down on the amount of calls you receive. Speak to your local phone company. There may be a fee to have an unlisted number.

    • 5

Get an inbound call blocker service. This service only lets callers who enter a special code ring through to your number. Speak to your local phone company about this type of service. There are also companies that sell call screening devices. You can find out more about these services by going to the Privacy Corps website.
