How to Make a Paper Buccaneer Hat
A buccaneer was a type of pirate that sailed the Caribbean islands during the 17th century, attacking and stealing from Spanish ships. Their hats were black, sometimes triangular in shape and often had feather accents. Whether you are teaching your students about buccaneers or you are just a parent of a pirate-obsessed little one, you can easily create buccaneer hats out of paper and a few small craft supplies.
Instructions

-
1
Unfold a sheet of newspaper, and turn it so that it is vertical.
-
2
Fold the newspaper in half, bringing the top section down to meet the bottom section. It should now be the same width as before, but half as tall.
-
-
3
Drag the top left corner down at the same time that you drag the top right corner down, so they form a point in the middle of the newspaper. Smooth out the edges.
-
4
Lift the bottom edge of the newspaper up and over the point you made to form the rim of the buccaneer hat. Do the same to the opposite side of the hat. Smooth all the edges.
-
5
Paint the buccaneer hat black. Wait for it to dry. This should take about an hour or two.
-
6
Tape or glue a feather to the side of the buccaneer hat.
