How to Teach Classical Music to Rural Children
Classical music can be one of the great joys of life, as its pristine structure and dulcet tones calm the mind even as it excites the imagination. Children can be resistant to learning about or playing classical music, especially rural children who, unless they participate in concert band in high school, may not have not been exposed to orchestral or ensemble compositions except through television. But with a bit of time and effort, you can teach children to appreciate classical music.
Instructions

-
1
Introduce the children slowly to the idea of classical music. During other lessons, have classical music playing softly in the background.
-
2
Watch the childrens' reactions over the course of a few weeks to discover which songs they enjoy and which they would rather not hear.
-
-
3
Ask the children to help you invent lyrics for their favorite songs. This can help to establish a connection between the children and the music, making the songs their own.
-
4
Explain interesting stories about classical composers to keep them enthralled, such as Beethoven's deafness.
-
5
Point out that the theme songs or background music to some of their favorite television programs or movies have classical elements.
