School uniforms take the pressure off a student who is concerned about spending money on his clothes, according to the American Council on Education in Washington, D.C. It helps lower the cost of clothing and reduces peer pressure to wear the best shirts or shoes. Looking good in a boy's school uniform is all about paying attention to the details. Even though all the boys are wearing the same thing, you can stand out from the crowd by practicing impeccable grooming.
Practice good hygiene by showering every day and applying deodorant. Shampoo with a dandruff shampoo because the dandruff flakes show up easily on dark school jackets. Keep your hair cut and groom it nicely in the morning before putting your uniform on.
Keep your uniform clean. Wash the slacks and shirts after each wearing. Take your jacket and tie to the cleaners on Friday after school so it will be ready for pick up on Saturday. This assures you will have a fresh jacket and tie for school on Monday.
Shine your shoes each week, or after they get especially dirty. Apply shoe polish with a soft cloth and work it in. Remove the excess with another soft cloth. Buff to a shine with a shoe buffing cloth.
Learn how to tie the tie properly. Have your mother, father or older brother teach you how to tie a neck tie. Don't wear a clip-on tie.
Wear a belt that matches the color of your shoes. If you are wearing brown shoes, wear a brown leather belt. Clean it every week with a leather cleaner. Replace the belt when it starts to show signs of wear.
Wear jewelry if you are allowed. A nice tie pin, tie clasp or tie chain can be an individual accent to your uniform. Wear a school pin or U.S. flag pin on the lapel of your jacket.
Fold a handkerchief; put it into the breast pocket of the jacket (if it's permitted). Place it in with one corner pointing up. This is a way to look dapper in your uniform.
Run a lint roller over your jacket and slacks before stepping out the door. Lint shows up easily on the dark school slacks and jackets. This is especially important if you have a cat or dog in your house, because pet hair can easily get on clothes.
Keep your posture straight and shoulders held back. Slouching will diminish the look and negate all the hard work you put into keeping your uniform in top shape. Wear it proudly and you will look your best.
