How to Identify DOT Rims

The Department of Transportation, or DOT, mandates that automotive rims meet certain specifications in order to be considered road safe. To make it simple for consumers, the information is printed on the rims themselves. If the information does not appear, then the rim does not meat the DOT's specifications.

Instructions

    • 1

Look for the place of origin on the rim. The DOT mandates that rims must have this information printed on the rim.

    • 2

Look for the size of rim. As part of DOT regulations, the size must be listed on the rim.

    • 3

Look for the "DOT" mark as that means the rim has been made to DOT specifications.
