For many people, if they don't have their morning coffee the rest of the day is going to be bad. Because of this your coffeemaker can be your most important kitchen appliance. Most of your repairs to your coffeemaker can be done by yourself. With some simple instruction and a few tools you can take your coffeemaker apart and diagnose what's wrong with the coffee pot.       Unplug your coffeemaker from the wall. Remove the coffee pot and the coffee ground basket. Tape the water reservoir shut so it doesn't open while making your repairs. If you don't tape the reservoir you risk breaking off the reservoir lid.

      Turn the coffeemaker upside down so you can see the bottom of the unit. On the bottom you will see screws holding the bottom panel onto the coffee maker. Remove these screws and inspect the inside of the unit. You may find debris, a disconnected wire or a part that is disconnected. All of these can be seen by eye while looking at the unit.

      Clean any debris that you find inside the unit. Reconnect any loose wires. If any parts aren't seated correctly or disconnected, reconnect them. After cleaning the unit and fixing the parts, reassemble the coffeemaker. Test the coffeemaker to see if this fixes the issues the problem.

      Unplug the coffeemaker and take it apart again if it is still not working. If it has a heating issue as well, the following steps will aid in fixing your issue. Take your multimeter and test the heating and warming elements. If there are no readings then those parts are dead and not working. Also test the switch, timer and thermostat. If any of these parts are dead they will have to be replaced. You will have to go to a local appliance parts retailer and purchase your parts. Replace the parts.

      Assemble your coffeemaker again. Plug the coffeemaker into the receptacle. Try your coffeemaker and make sure it works. If the coffeemaker still doesn't work, take it apart again and make sure all parts are properly connected. If the coffeemaker still doesn't work, then it is time to replace the unit.
