How to Convert an Energizer Battery to Button Cell Batteries

Button-cell batteries are small, round, light batteries that resemble buttons and are used in smaller devices. Silver-oxide button-cell batteries are used to deliver a consistent low-power output over a long period of time to a device such as a watch. Some Energizer-brand alkaline batteries are created by banding together button-cell and other small batteries. For example, you can extract eight alkaline, button-cell batteries from one Energizer 12-volt alkaline battery.

Instructions

1. Purchase an Energizer A23 12-volt battery. Confirm the brand and model before you proceed.

2. Locate the place on the battery where the battery casing seals. Peel away the casing with a small screwdriver.

3. Remove the brown paper from inside the casing. Extract eight 1.5-volt, alkaline, button-cell batteries.

Tips & Warnings

• A 9-volt Energizer battery contains six 1.5-volt AAAA alkaline batteries inside its casing.

• The button-cell batteries you extract are alkaline batteries that provide gradually less power as they weaken over time and eventually die. Genuine watch batteries are silver-oxide batteries that provide a consistent amount of power and then die instantly. Some devices, such as a watch, may not function properly when powered by an alkaline battery.
