Things You'll Need

  • Replacement Liftmaster or universal garage door opener remote
  • Obtain a replacement garage door opener remote from Liftmaster. Note that you can use universal garage door opener remotes if they operate on the same frequency as your Liftmaster.

  • Delete previous programming codes from the garage door opener's overhead motor unit before reprogramming your replacement remote. Locate the "Learn" button on the motor unit and then depress and hold the button until the indicator light above the button turns off.

  • Press and release the "Learn" button to begin the reprogramming process. The indicator light will come on and glow solidly for 30 seconds before turning off.

  • Depress and hold the largest button on your Liftmaster or universal garage door opener remote. Release the button when the overhead motor unit's main lights blink, indicating a successfully completed programming process. If no bulbs are in the motor unit, listen for two clicks to confirm programming.
