How to Mount Winches to Four Wheelers
Mounting a winch to the front of your all-terrain vehicle (ATV) is a necessity when it comes to rough types of riding. You must mount the winch to the frame of the ATV via a mounting plate that comes with the winch. When you buy the winch, check to ensure it will work with your ATV. The winch kit will come with all the mounting components and hardware, but you will need the correct tools.

Lay the mounting plate, bolts and winch on the ground in front of the ATV. Place the mounting plate onto the front of the ATV, and line up the mounting holes on the frame with the support holes on the mounting plate.

Insert the mounting bolts into the support hole to secure the mounting plate to the frame. Tighten the bolts in an X pattern as much as possible with a ratchet set. The mounting plate must not be able to move at all.

Have a friend place the winch onto the mounting plate and hold it. As your friend holds the winch, line up the mounting brackets on the winch with the mounting holes on the mounting plate.

Insert the mounting bolts into the support holes on the winch and mounting plate. Tighten the mounting bolts as tight as you can with a ratchet set. Wire the winch to the ATV according to the instructions for that specific winch.

Tips & Warnings
Some ATVs may not have the mounting hole preinstalled on the frame. To drill mounting holes into the frame of your ATV, you will need structural diagram of the frame.
Incorrectly drilling holes into the frame of your ATV will seriously damage the frame, which can lead to serious injury to yourself and others.
