Instructions

  1. Preparing the Pot

    • 1

Cut the floral foam so that it will fit in the flower pot.

    • 2

Soak the floral foam in water for 20 to 30 minutes, then place the floral foam into the flower pot.

    • 3

Arrange kale, lettuce or herbs at the bottom of the pot so that the leaves hang over the side.

    Turning Fruit Into Flowers

    • 4

Peel pineapple. Cut it horizontally into rounds. Use the flower-shaped cookie cutter to cut a "flower" out of the pineapple. You can also use a seedless watermelon in the same way.

    • 5

Cut the cantaloupe in half and scrape out seeds. Use the melon baller to remove a ball of cantaloupe.

    • 6

Thread the bamboo skewer with a grape, the pineapple flower and then the cantaloupe ball, to create a pineapple daisy. If you don't have cantaloupe, use a berry for the flower center. Or, cut out a cylinder of pineapple and thread that in place of the melon ball, to create a pineapple daffodil. Make other fruit flowers by threading a grape and then more fruit cutouts onto the skewers. The grape will stop the other fruit from slipping down on the skewer.

    • 7

Make strawberry rosebuds by threading an upside down strawberry on each skewer. Thread several grapes vertically onto a skewer, one on top of another, to create tall, snapdragon-like flowers. Cut tangerines in half horizontally and thread them onto skewers so that the cut edges open like flowers.

    • 8

Cut the cheese (if using) into flower shapes with the cookie cutters and thread them onto skewers.

    • 9

Preserve your "flowers" by applying store-bought fruit preservative to them. Follow the directions on the label to mix and apply the preservative.

    • 10

Arrange them in the pot as desired.

Tips & Warnings

  • For chocolate lovers, dip strawberries and other fruits in chocolate prior to arranging them in the pot.

  • Put the largest flower a little bit off-center in the pot to create a focal point. Then, arrange the smaller flowers around it.

  • Unusual tropical fruits like star fruits and dragon fruit are excellent choices for an edible bouquet.
