How to Disable OnStar in Chevrolet Colorado

Most Chevrolets offer OnStar as a standard feature. The Chevrolet Colorado comes standard with an OnStar package, which includes an OnStar box. The OnStar box allows the OnStar device to track your Colorado even if you do not pay for an OnStar subscription. If you prefer to have OnStar completely disabled from your Chevrolet Colorado, you can disable it fairly easily, and you won't need any tools to complete the job.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the rear driver's side door of your Chevrolet Colorado truck.

    • 2

Pull the seat release located on the side of the rear seat and pull the back of the seat down.

    • 3

Locate the OnStar box behind the rear seat.

    • 4

Locate the three wire connectors coming out from the side of the box. The box should be attached to the back of the truck, and the wires should be leading down.

    • 5

Unplug the three wires from the OnStar box to disconnect the device from the vehicle's battery and the OnStar hands-free system located on the rear-view mirror. Once the OnStar device is disconnected from your Colorado's battery and the OnStar system, it will be disabled.
