The Installation of a Cisco Aironet Access Point

The Cisco Aironet line of wireless access points are a common corporate and enterprise level access point used in creating a more mobile environment for employees. Along with the easy to set up and deploy hardware, the web-based configuration makes attaching the access point to any network a relatively simple task. While the basic configuration provides a usable wireless environment, the Cisco Aironet is capable of adapting to a variety of wireless solutions and situations.

Instructions

    • 1

Unpack the Cisco Aironet Access Point and attach the antennae to the back of the device. Plug in the power adapter and attach the other end of the power cord to the device to turn it on. Attach one end of an Ethernet cable to a computer and the other end to the Cisco Aironet Access Point.

    • 2

Launch a web browser on your computer and navigate to the Access Point's Internet Protocol (IP) address. This address was assigned following your network's current IP scheme.

    • 3

Enter "cisco" when prompted for a password, then click the "Express Set Up" option from the menu on the left side of the page.

    • 4

Enter the Access Point's host name into the "Host Name" field, then enter any IP address settings you may need for your network. If you don't know what you need, the "DHCP" option may be best for initial configurations.

    • 5

Click "Express Security" once you have set up the basic network settings for your Access Point. Enter the name you want your Access Point to announce itself as in the "SSID" field. Choose the wireless security settings and enter any pass phrases you may need to use.

Log out of the Cisco Aironet Access Point once the configuration is complete. Unplug the Ethernet cable from the computer you were using for configuration and use it to attach the Cisco Aironet Access Point to your wired network.
