1
Draw a pattern for your blanket. This will give you an idea of how much material you'll need and will give you something to pin to the fleece when you get it, which will make it easier to cut the fleece to the desired size.
-
2
Buy enough material for both sides of your blanket, based on the size you want your blanket to be. You can make both sides of the blanket the same color or pattern, or make them different.
-
-
3
Buy ribbon to attach to the blanket. You'll need enough to go all the way around the outside edges of the blanket. Also make sure you buy ribbon at a fabric store, because not all ribbon can handle sewing. The type of ribbon you're looking for won't split when you insert the sewing needle.
-
4
Wash the material if the instructions call for it. This will prevent shrinkage.
-
5
Pin the pattern onto the fleece and cut it out.
-
6
Tack the back and front pieces of fleece together with straight pins. It's very important that all of the edges line up, because you'll sew the two pieces together. Also, make sure the seams you've created by sewing the two pieces of material together face one another.
-
7
Sew the back and front sides of the blanket together.
-
8
Pin the ribbon onto the outside of the blanket. You're making a ribbon border, so you want enough of the ribbon so you can encircle the whole blanket. Wrap the ribbon on the outsides of the edges so an equal portion of ribbon covers both the front and back sides of the blanket. This will cover the sewn edges of the blanket.
-
9
Sew the ribbon around the the outside edges of the blanket. The ribbon forms a border around the edges of the blanket and gives it a finished look.
