My Clothes Dryer Makes a Banging Noise

Save

A clothes dryer that makes a banging noise indicates that the dryer is not level. When the dryer's feet are not level with the floor, the drum inside the dryer is not able to move in a smooth motion. The lack of a level setting causes the dryer to move back and forth, which results in a banging sound. To eliminate this banging noise, you must level the appliance.

Things You'll Need

  • Level
  • Wood block
  • Place a level on the top of the washer. Check to see how level the dryer is from side to side and from front to back.

  • Insert a wood block under the front of the dryer to slightly lift up on the front of the appliance.

  • Turn the front legs counterclockwise to make them taller. Turn the front legs clockwise to make them shorter.

  • Remove the wood block and place it under the back of the dryer.

  • Turn the rear legs counterclockwise to make them taller. Turn the rear legs clockwise to make them shorter.

  • Remove the wood block. Check how even the appliance is with a level. Repeat the process if necessary.
