How to Make Naruto Thigh Pouches

Making a Naruto ninja thigh pouch for your child is a quick and easy project.

For those familiar with the Japanese manga and anime series, Naruto is a young ninja warrior. The series is based on comic written and illustrated by Masashi Kishimoto and has become a best selling series. Naruto is determined to become the mightiest ninja in his village. Pouches are worn by ninjas to carry their tools in an efficient way that allows them to move quickly and with stealth. A quick and easy Naruto ninja pouch can be made in about 20 minutes.

Things You'll Need

• Fabric
• Scissors
• Thread
• Needle
• Paper
• Pencil

Instructions

1. Create a round circle with a 6-inch diameter on paper. Draw a straight line across the circle about 1/8 inch from the edge somewhere on the circle. You are creating a straight edge on a part of your circle pattern. Cut around the circle until you reach the straight line you have drawn, and then cut across that line. This line creates the top of the pouch. The second pattern you will develop is in the shape of a trapezoid. To create this shape, simply draw a perfect three-inch square. Erase the lines on the sides of the square and erase 1/2 inch from each end of the top line of the box. Now connect the ends of the top line to the corresponding ends of the bottom line. You have created a trapezoid pattern. Cut both pattern pieces out of the paper.

2. Place the pattern pieces on your fabric. Make sure to leave 1/4 inch of extra fabric around the patterns to adjust for seams. Cut one piece of material using the round pouch pattern only. For the second piece of your pattern, lay the trapezoid with the longer 3-inch edge butting up against the flat edge you have created on the circle pattern. Cut around the combined circle and trapezoid shape creating one fabric piece.

3. Fold 1/4 inch along the straight edge part of your circular piece. Hand or machine stitch to create a finished edge.

4. Lay the smaller round pouch piece on the larger combined piece with right sides together. The straight edge of the circular piece and the trapezoid portion of the combined piece should face each other. The trapezoid piece will fold over the straight edge portion of the round piece, becoming the flap for your Naruto Thigh Pouch. Sew around the pouch leaving the straight edged portion and the trapezoid portion of the pouch unattached to create the opening.

5. Turn your pouch right side out. Hand stitch a small hem around the flap created by the trapezoid piece. Fold the flap piece over and press with a hot iron. This will hang over the opening of the pouch.

6. Cut two parallel slits in the back of the pouch, each about 2 inches long and 1 1/2 inch apart. Thread your strap or belt though these slits. That's it. You are now ready to put on your Naruto Thigh Pouch.
