How to Rebuild a Daisy Red Ryder
The Daisy Red Ryder is an air-powered BB gun. These firearms have been in production for decades and are almost a rite of passage for many youths. When rebuilding a Red Ryder you are basically restoring the rifle into aesthetic and working condition like when it was new. Rebuild the Red Ryder and enjoy having a functioning piece of Americana. The rebuild takes a day or two in order to let the clear varnish dry.
Things You'll Need
- Phillips screwdriver
- Rags
- Metal polish
- Leather rawhide strip
- Clear wood varnish
- Sponge brush
- Horsehair brush
- Gun oil
- 3-in-1 Oil
- Can of compressed air

Unscrew the stock from the metal trigger and barrel. Use the Phillips screwdriver to remove the side-plate retaining screws and pull the wooden stock out from the Red Ryder.

Pull the pump down and unscrew the retaining screws at the pump spring and remove the wooden pump. Drop two to three drops of oil onto the pump spring.

Wipe down the wooden stock and pump with the horsehair brush. Apply a coat of the clear varnish to the wooden parts. Set them aside to dry.

Unscrew the cap at the end of the barrel and remove. Look down the barrel to see if there is dust or buildup on the side of the barrel chamber. Spray the compressed air into the barrel to remove the dust and buildup.

Drip gun oil onto a rag and wipe down all metal parts of the rifle. Screw the stock back onto the rifle. Screw the pump back onto the rifle, and screw the barrel cap back onto the Red Ryder.

Tie the leather rawhide strip to the end of the trigger pump handle if you wish to make the Red Ryder as authentic as possible.
