How to Use Paint Shop Pro 8

Paint Shop Pro 8 is a photo manipulation program that competes in a similar vein to Adobe Photoshop and GIMP. When you load the program for the first time, the various icons can be a little intimidating, especially if you have never used Paint Shop Pro before. However, there isn't too much to learning some basic functions; it is just a matter of knowing how to use the onscreen tools.

Instructions

    • 1

Press the "Ctrl" and "N" keys to open a new, blank canvas.

    • 2

Click a tool you wish to use.

    • 3

Click the canvas. Depending on the tool you select, you may be able to drag your mouse for greater effect. For example, if you click the pencil, you can click and drag the canvas to draw a thin line. If you clicked the paint bucket, on the other hand, you just make a single click to color the entire canvas.

    • 4

Click the black square on the toolbar. Click the color you wish to change it to. This lets you change the color of the marks you make on the canvas.

    • 5

Click the text tool, which looks like the letter "A," if you want to add text to your work. Click anywhere on your canvas and type what you want to appear. Click outside of the box that appears to save your text.

    • 6

Click "File" and "Save" to save your work. By default, Paint Shop Pro 8 saves files in the "PSP" format, but you can click the drop-down menu to change this. Supported file types include PNG, JPEG, TIFF and GIF.
