Cement is a durable garden edging material that lasts for decades. Thanks to concrete dye, the edging comes in various colors. Because edging lasts so long, you may grow tired of the color. Rather than dig up your cement edging to replace it, you can paint the edging a different color. Cement edging has a porous surface that will absorb paint. Because of this, you need to seal the edging before painting it.
Step 1
Mix 1/4 cup trisodium phosphate (TSP) cleaner with 1 gallon water in a bucket. Wear gloves when using TSP to prevent skin contact. Scrub the concrete edging with a nylon bristled brush dipped in the TSP solution. Allow the edging to dry before painting.

Step 2
Apply concrete sealer to the edging with a paintbrush. Allow the primer to dry.
Step 3
Brush concrete primer over the surface of the edging. Select a tinted primer so fewer coats of paint are needed. Allow the primer to dry before painting the surface.
Step 4
Brush paint over the surface of the edging. Allow the paint to dry before adding a second coat. If you did not use tinted primer, add a third coat of paint.
Step 5
Brush an exterior sealer over the paint. Allow the sealer to dry before gardening near the edging.
