How to Install an Undermount Apron Sink
An apron sink is similar to any other sink with a few design differences. The apron sink has a small section that protrudes from the front of the sink down in front of the cabinet where the sink rests. This "apron" in front of the sink is how the sink gets its name. Many farm-style kitchens use this design of sink. There are both single and double sink varieties that use the apron style. Installing the sink is a simple process and should take about one or two hours to complete. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Measure the width and height of the sink. Draw this measurement onto the counter where you want to install the sink. Most countertops come with an opening to place a sink, so the only cut you will likely have to make is down the front of the counter to make room for the apron.
-
2
Cut out the countertop so that the sink can slide into place. Use a handheld electric saw to cut the countertop.
-
-
3
Cut two 1-by-2 boards to a measurement of 1 inch wider than the sink. Screw these boards in place under the countertop to create bracing to hold the weight of the sink. Screw the boards to the countertop supports.
-
4
Cut a platform equal to the size of the sink base and screw it to the support brackets. Make sure there is enough space behind the platform for the plumbing to fit inside.
-
5
Install the surrounding countertops around the sink opening if they are not already there. Screw the top in place along the cabinet tops.
-
6
Place the sink inside the sink opening. Allow the sink base to rest on the platform. Connect the plumbing to the sink using a wrench and any other tools necessary.
-
7
Glue the sink into place using waterproof silicone sealant. Apply a line of sealant along all sides of the sink, including the bottom apron. Allow the sealant to dry for 24 hours before using the sink.
