How to Microwave Rhubarb Pie

How to Microwave Rhubarb Pie thumbnail
If you have leftover rhubarb pie, reheat it later.

Like many things, fresh rhubarb pie is best when it's hot from the oven. After you store it for a while, the fillings lose their original texture and the crust can become soggy. To reclaim some of the pie's original flavor and charm, however, you can reheat it before eating. For even better results, add a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The ice cream's cold, sweet creaminess will provide a perfect contrast for the rhubarb's warmth and tangy flavor. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the rhubarb pie you wish to microwave into slices, if it is not already sliced. You should only microwave one slice at a time rather than the whole pie, so cut out as many slices as you need and store the rest of the pie in the refrigerator or freezer.

    • 2

Place one slice of the rhubarb pie onto a microwave-safe plate. Place the plate into the microwave and set the microwave to "Low."

    • 3

Microwave the slice of pie for 20 seconds. Check it to see whether it is hot enough for your liking. If not, microwave the slice for another 10 seconds, still on "Low." Repeat this process as necessary until the pie is hot enough.

    • 4

Microwave each slice of pie you wish to reheat in the same way: one slice at a time for an initial 20 seconds, then 10 more seconds at a time if necessary.

Tips & Warnings

  • For better results, reheat your rhubarb pie in the oven instead of the microwave. Simply place the pie on a baking sheet, then put the baking sheet into an oven, preheated to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Bake for about 15 minutes. This will result in a crisper, flakier crust than you will get by microwaving the pie.
