How to Use a Garlic Peeler Tube

How to Use a Garlic Peeler Tube thumbnail
Garlic is a common ingredient in many different cuisines but requires the removal of skin of the clove before usage.

Garlic is an integral flavor in many dishes, used around the globe, from Italian to Chinese cuisines. Peeling garlic is one of the early steps in preparing it. The fibrous, papery skin is peeled off, usually by first smashing a clove and picking off the skin. The garlic peeler tube offers an alternative to picking off each individual piece of skin. It is less time-consuming than the traditional method and keeps your hands from absorbing the smell of the cloves. All peeler tubes work the same way, no matter what the brand, and so these instructions can apply to any kind. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Remove one clove of garlic from the head. Place it on the cutting board.

    • 2

Cut off the bottom of the clove, where it was attached to the head, using the sharp knife. Discard the bottom.

    • 3

Place the tube on its side on the cutting board. Insert the clove of garlic in the tube, bottom first, so that its sides are parallel with the sides of the tube.

    • 4

Press down with your hand, where the garlic is located, until you can feel the clove firmly under your palm.

    • 5

Maintain pressure as you begin to move you hand back and forth in a rolling motion.

    • 6

Roll for five to 10 seconds, until you hear the skin crackle.

    • 7

Remove the garlic clove, it is peeled at this point, and flush out the skin from the tube using running water. Repeat with the other cloves if desired.
