How to Repair a Dodge Key Fob

Save

Dodge vehicles of nearly all years, makes and models come equipped with keyless-entry systems controlled with wireless remotes, called fobs, which you can add to your key chain and keep in your pocket. You can use Dodge remotes to access your door locks and trunk release, as well as control your panic alarm. If the remote stops working, you can repair it by replacing the battery and resyncing the remote to the system.

Things You'll Need

  • Knife or slotted screwdriver
  • Remove the case of your remote by running a flat blade, such as a knife or a slotted screwdriver, along the edge of the case and then prying it open in one spot.

  • Notice the location and position of the current battery, and remove it by lifting the retention clip. Insert a new battery in place of the old one, and replace the retention clip. Snap the case back together, and enter your car with the remote.

  • Enter your vehicle, insert your key into the ignition, close all the doors behind you and fasten the driver's seat belt.

  • Turn the ignition key to the "On" position. Press the "Unlock" button on your remote, and hold it down for four seconds, then press and hold the "Panic" button.

  • Hold both buttons for one second together, then release both. Wait for a chime to sound, then press and release both the "Lock" and "Unlock" buttons on your remote.

  • Wait for another chime, then press and release any button on your remote. Listen for a final chime indicating that you have completed the programming process; once you hear it, remove the key from the ignition.
