With a standard splitter cable, however, you are able to hook up two signals to your computer. This gives you the option of recording your voice and music at the exact same time.

  • 3.5mm splitter cable
  • Microphone
  • RCA-to-3.5mm cable

Instructions

      Plug the single end of the 3.5mm splitter cable into the Line In port on the computer system.

      Insert the 3.5mm cable running out of the microphone into one of the two available ends on the splitter cable.

      Connect the RCA ends of the RCA-to-3.5mm cable into the Audio Out ports on the music device you want hooked up to the computer. Attach the 3.5mm end of the cable into the remaining end of the splitter cable.

      Power on the microphone and the connected equipment, then click "Start," "All Programs," "Accessories," "Entertainment" and click "Windows Audio Recorder." Click "Record," then press "Play" on the musical device and begin singing. The audio recorder now captures both your voice and the music at the same time.
