How to Make a 3D Model of a Camera

Save

Perhaps your child is developing an interest in photography but you can't bear to let her loose with your expensive new digital camera. Or maybe your little once has been set an assignment at school to make a three-dimensional camera model. Whatever the reason, a cardboard camera is simple to make. Keep one of the empty boxes you were about to throw out and a toilet paper tube and you've already got half of the parts you need.

Things You'll Need

  • Bottle top
  • Toilet paper tube
  • Glue
  • Paint
  • Paintbrushes
  • Ribbon
  • Empty box, around 6 inches by 4 inches by 2 inches
  • Sheet of cardboard
  • Cover a cardboard box with construction paper and glue it down so the packaging of the box is no longer visible.

  • Cut a cardboard toilet paper tube in half with a utility knife.

  • Paint this half-tube whatever color you like.

  • Draw a 2-inch square on a piece of card and cut it out.

  • Draw a 1-inch square inside the square you have just cut out. Cut this middle square out with a utility knife.

  • Paint your bottle top. This will eventually be the camera's button.

  • Stick the half toilet paper tube to the center of one of the two larger sides of the box.

  • Fold one of the sides of the hollowed out square to make a base. Apply glue to the bottom of the base and attach this to the top of the camera on the far left. The top is the long side above the toilet paper tube.

  • Cover the bottom rim of the bottle top with glue and stick this down on the far right of the top of the camera.

  • Apply glue to around 2 inches of the end of a ribbon and attach this to the top of the right side of your camera.

  • Repeat the previous step with the other end of the ribbon at the opposite side of the camera. This is the camera's strap.

  • Allow the glue to dry.
