How to Make Dolls out of Hand Towels

Hand towels are often soft, especially after they have been washed many times. There is no need to throw out hand towels after they have become worn or slightly ripped. Making dolls out of old hand towels is a fun, simple project. Try making a towel doll for an older child to play with or for a baby to cuddle with. Towel dolls can be a family project as well. Children enjoy getting creative as they make this with you.

Things You'll Need

  • Foam ball
  • Handkerchief
  • Scissors
  • Felt
  • Yarn
  • Craft glue
  • Fold an old hand towel in half. The closed portion of the towel should be on the top and the open portion should be on the bottom.

  • Take a small foam ball and insert it inside the middle of the towel. The top of the ball should be touching the closed portion of the towel.

  • Gather the material from the towel and twist it so that the covered foam ball is on top and the towel material is beneath it.

  • Tie a decorative handkerchief around the twisted portion of the towel to hold the head in place and to create a scarf for the doll.

  • Cut out various shapes of felt to create the face of the doll. Use different colors for a more vibrant-looking doll. Use yarn to create the hair.

  • Use craft glue to secure the felt pieces and yarn onto the covered foam.

  • Leave the excess towel on the bottom alone to serve as fabric to cuddle with.

Tips & Warnings

  • Children should always use these towel dolls while under adult supervision.
