How to Add Ink to a Self-Inking Stamp

How to Add Ink to a Self-Inking Stamp thumbnail
A self-inking stamp has a built-in in pad.

Self-inking stamps have a built-in ink pad that presses ink into the stamp as it is pressed onto the paper. This type of stamp is commonly found in offices, where papers must frequently be stamped with dates, addresses, official emblems and other important information. When a self-inking stamp runs out of ink, the stamp impressions will appear faded or dark in some areas and light in others. Refilling a self-inking stamp is a simple process that does not require much technical skill.

Instructions

    • 1

Push down on the plastic lid of the self-inking stamp about 1/4 inch.

    • 2

Lock the stamp into place either by squeezing the two buttons on the side of the stamp or sliding the slide button to one side. The rectangular ink well should be visible.

    • 3

Pull the ink well out from underneath the plastic lid until it clicks into place or, in some cases, push the ink well out entirely.

    • 4

Fill each hole in the ink well with three drops of ink and allow the ink to soak in for 15 minutes. For ink wells with no holes and merely an ink pad, drop about six drops of ink across its surface and allow to soak for 15 minutes.

    • 5

Push or slide the ink well back into its slot beneath the plastic lid and press down on the lid to unlock it.
