Use any type of potpourri to fill your hand-crafted bonnet.

Sock, underwear and handkerchief drawers will smell better using potpourri bonnets. Potpourri bonnets consist of a small pouch, shaped like the top of a bonnet, filled with any type of potpourri. Because potpourri naturally refreshes the air, you want your pouch to be made out of lace. This way the potpourri's wonderful odor can breathe through the lace's tiny holes. Refresh your rooms, closets and drawers by making your own potpourri bonnets.

Instructions

    • 1

Iron all the wrinkles and creases our of your chosen fabrics and lace and lay them out on a table.

    • 2

Place a six-inch plate face down on top of the fabric.

    • 3

Trace a circle around the plate with fabric chalk. Cut along the line that was traced and cut the fabric circle out.

    • 4

Place your firm poster board on the table, put the plate face down on top of the poster board. Trace around the plate using a pencil. Cut along the traced line and cut the poster board circle out.

    • 5

Take your lace fabric and lay it on the table. Lay your plate face down over the lace. Using a tape measure, measure two inches wider around the entire plate--a total of eight-inches around--and mark your lace with fabric chalk. Cut along the line that was traced and cut your lace circle out. Do not worry if it is not a perfect circle.

    • 6

Glue your fabric circle onto the poster board circle using fabric glue and let dry. This will be the base for your bonnet.

    • 7

Place your lace in a small glass. Push the middle of the lace circle into the glass to create a pouch. Fill the pouch with potpourri.

    • 8

Gather up the lace and secure the pouch with a tight, small rubber-band. Do not gather it too tightly as you went the potpourri pouch to look like the top of a bonnet.

    • 9

Lay your lace bonnet over the base with the other fabric facing down and glue to attach. The lace should completely cover your poster board base, with extra lace hanging over the sides. Take the extra lace and glue it to the side of the poster board covering any edges. Cut excess fabric lace off. Let dry.

    • 10

Tie your decorative ribbon around the base of your bonnet top. Glue to secure. Let dry.

    • 11

Place your potpourri bonnet in your desired location and enjoy its aroma.
