How to Reinstall a Disc

The computer term "disc" is used to describe optical disc media, like CDs or DVDs. If you have a program that you've purchased that came on a disc, you have to install that program in your operating system in order to get the program to work. If you've uninstalled that program, don't worry -- it isn't lost forever. You can always use the original disc to reinstall the software on your machine.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the disc tray on your computer's optical disc drive. If your disc is a CD, you can use a CD or DVD drive. If your disc is a DVD, you must use a DVD drive.

    • 2

Insert your disc into the disc tray and close the drive. If Windows recognizes your disc and automatically loads the software installation utility, skip to Step 4. If Windows does nothing upon the insertion of your disc, continue to Step 3.

    • 3

Click "Start" and open "Computer." Double-click the icon for the disc you inserted into your disc drive to load the software installation utility.

    • 4

Click "Install." This will begin the reinstallation process for your software. Click "Next" and advance through this process, reading the terms of service and selecting a location on your hard drive for the software files (if you don't have a specific location in mind, leave the default settings intact).

    • 5

Click "Finish." This will reinstall the software from your disc onto your Windows computer.
