DIY Guitar Headphone Amp

You can connect just about any audio speaker to your electric guitar.

Electric guitars have an amp output connection that allows you to directly hook up a speaker to the musical instrument. However, you do not necessarily need to use an amp, as any audio connection with a 1/4-inch cable is able to hook up to the guitar, including headphones. Most headphones use a 3.5 mm cable connection, so you need to convert the cable to the larger 1/4-inch hookup to set up a headphone amp.

Things You'll Need

• 3.5 mm to 1/4-inch adapter
• Guitar
• Headphones
• 1/4-inch guitar cable

Instructions

1. Plug the 3.5 mm cable running from your headphones into the 3.5 mm end of the adapter.

2. Insert one end of the 1/4-inch cable into the adapter and the other end into the amp connection port on your electric guitar.

3. Power on the guitar and place the headphones onto your head. The audio from the guitar now plays directly into the headphones.
