A white star stencil is an economical way to spice up your room.

Adding painted objects to the walls of your home or office is a cost-effective way to personalize the space. A small amount of paint, a paintbrush, a star stencil and some other items commonly found in the home can spiff up a room quickly. After letting the white star dry, you can also get creative by adding the name of your child, your family name or a favorite quote to the interior of the star.

Instructions

    • 1

Place towels, sheets or plastic on the floor of the room you will be painting in. You do not want to stain your floor, furniture or clothing with white paint. Put on your old clothes or painting coveralls. Place your ladder, paint, paintbrush and stencil on a long table for easy access. Preparation is key for any successful home improvement project, especially those of the do-it-yourself variety.

    • 2

Draw, using a drafting pencil, the shape of the stencil on the wall. Using a lighter colored pencil ensures covering it up quickly is possible if you make a mistake. Once you are satisfied with the shape of the star, tape the stencil on the lines. Taping the stencil on the wall, as well as drawing the shape, enhances accuracy. Buying a white stencil ensures that paint stains are not visible on the stencil after you have finished your project.

    • 3

Paint in the stencil window. The extra paint will go on the stencil, not outside the stencil on your wall. Use light coats of paint. Let each coat dry thoroughly before adding another. Continue until you have your desired shade of white. Let dry fully.

    • 4

Add your child's name, your family name or another word that is important to you in the middle of the star. Wait several days until the paint is fully dry for best results. Use letter stencils for your writing. Follow the same instructions, painting in the stencil window, as you did with the star.
