How to Load a Bed with a Forklift

Forklifts are very helpful pieces of equipment capable of moving heavy furniture such as beds.

The easiest and safest way to move heavy items with a forklift is to secure them to a pallet. Pallets are specially designed wooden frames that have holes the forks can be inserted into to allow for safe lifting. If you are trying to move a bed with a forklift, it is best to disassemble the bed and secure the pieces to the pallet. If you are moving the mattress as well as the bed frame, it is best to move the mattress by hand, as it cannot easily be secured to a forklift and could pose a safety threat.

Instructions

1. Keep the forklift's mast in the upright position before inserting the forks through the holes in the pallet. Also make sure the forks are as wide apart as possible to make for the most even distribution of weight.

2. Insert the forks all the way through the pallet, making sure the forks are level.

3. Check to make sure the load is secure before moving. The items on the pallet should be secure, and the pallet should be stable enough to support the load.

4. Check your overhead clearance before raising the load on the forklift. The forklift should always be parked before raising or lowering a load. Also, the operator should remain in the vehicle the entire time a load is being lifted or lowered.
