Remove and reapply caulk slowly and carefully.

Silicone caulk is used to seal the space between sinks, counter tops and other areas where pieces of granite come together. Sometimes mildew may develop underneath or around silicone caulking, or the caulk may have been applied improperly and can appear unsightly. In any case, the caulk must be properly removed to prevent damage to the surrounding granite surface. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Allow the caulk to dry before attempting to remove it from the granite surface.

    • 2

Place a sharp razor blade between the granite surface and the caulk at a slight angle. Scrape and lift the caulk gently. Granite is scratch-resistant, so if you work carefully the blade won't scratch the surface.

    • 3

Scrape the remaining caulk carefully with the edge of a painter's tool or screwdriver. Pull out larger chunks with a pair of needle-nose pliers.

    • 4

Reapply the caulk as necessary, using a mildew-proof formula for any areas that get wet or are prone to mildew.
