Instructions

    • 1

Soak the fabric in hot water for a few minutes before washing and rinsing it thoroughly. Read the fabric's tag to know which bleach is safe to use. Pour a gallon of water into the bucket. Pour half a cup of bleach into the water, but don't get any on the fabric. Put the fabric in the water and let it soak for a while, then wash and rinse again. Repeat the process until you achieve a satisfactory result, since some fabrics require more bleach to remove all color.

    • 2

Mix the dye powder with 2 cups of cold water in another bucket following the instructions on the dye package. Mix it until it forms a smooth paste, with no lumps. Add about 2 1/2 quarts of cold water to the bucket.

    • 3

Place the fabric in the water and stir it in a circular motion for a couple of minutes. Stir it again in an up-and-down motion to thoroughly distribute the dye on the fabric. Let the fabric soak for a while before repeating the stirring motion.

    • 4

Rinse the fabric in warm water and hang it to let the water drip. Stir it in warm water before it completely dries, and rinse it again. Squeeze out the excess dye and hang the fabric to dry.

    • 5

Dye the fabric again if the desired color is not yet achieved, but don't bleach it again.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure you're using the right type of dye for your fabric.
