1
Paint the kitchen walls a warm color. Conside using soft gold, light brown or another warm tone.
-
2
Use plenty of wood surfaces to create a rustic feeling. Furniture made from lighter wood or distressed wood can be perfect for country-style kitchens. Check out thrift stores, antique shops or yard sales for vintage wood pieces like china hutches or tables that would fit with your kitchen design.

3
Install an overhead pot rack on the ceiling in the center of the room. Hang your best cast-iron or copper cookware from the pot rack to enhance the country-style feeling.
-
4
Install flooring that evokes the feel of a quiet cabin or your favorite grandmother's kitchen. Flooring made of ceramic tile, brick or wood is durable and can work in a country-style kitchen design.
-
5
Utilize natural lighting as much as possible to enhance the warm glow you've created in your kitchen. Look for window treatments that are sheer but still allow for privacy. If your kitchen has few windows, replace standard overhead lights with hanging lanterns or install a dimmer system to adjust light levels.
-
6
Incorporate patterns and themes into your kitchen's design. Checkered or plaid patterns can be found in many country-style kitchens. Roosters are another common motif. With these pieces, try not to go overboard, or your kitchen might end up looking tacky. A well-placed cookie jar with a rooster design or pair of gingham curtains goes much further than having a rooster image emblazoned on every dish, cabinet and pot holder.

7
Display your knickknacks proudly. Country kitchens should feel personal. Consider installing a shelf to showcase a collection or stacking your cookbooks so that they are on display.
