How to Remove Your Wood Blinds

Remove your wood blinds to clean them periodically. (You might want to clean the window while you're at it.) Two end brackets hold the ends of the mechanical housing of the wood blind in the window frame. These brackets are designed to easily install and remove the blinds. A valance clips in front of the mechanical housing for aesthetic purposes. This can be removed without much effort. The job shouldn't take you more than a few minutes.

  • Grab each end of the window valance with your hands.

  • Push the bottom of the valance in toward the window, while tilting the top of the valance out away from the window.

  • Slide the valance upward until the clips holding it in place release from the top of the wood blind's mechanical housing. Set the valance down.

  • Lift the wood blinds up. If the blinds are lifted with a cord then pull the cord. If the blinds are cordless then just lift the blinds up with your hand.

  • Push up on the bottom of one of the end caps until the latch lock releases. Extend the latch to its fully open position with your fingers. Repeat the process on the other end cap.

  • Grab the mechanical housing at both ends and pull it straight out of the end caps.

Tips & Warnings

  • Some end caps have sliding latches rather than lifting latches.
