Millions of retailers worldwide accept it and most Visa credit cards come with standard services such as an car-rental collision damage waivers, emergency card replacement and zero-liability protection. If you have a new Visa card, you must register your card online or on the telephone before using it.

      Retrieve the documentation that accompanied your Visa card. Note that some cards have the activation instructions on a sticker affixed directly to the card.

      Visit the company website associated with your Visa card. Click the link "Activate Card" or "Register Card."

      Complete the online form with the information requested, such as your name, the 16-digit Visa card number and your email and billing address. In some cases, you may be instructed to enter your social security number as well.

      Confirm your information and click the link "Activate" or "Register." Wait for a confirmation message to appear on the screen.

      Dial the toll-free activation number that accompanied your Visa card.

      Listen to the automated menu. Select the prompt to activate your Visa card.

      Listen to the prompts and enter the information requested. Stay on the phone until the system confirms that you have successfully registered your Visa card.

Tips & Warnings

  • Remove any stickers from your Visa card after registration.

  • Register your card as soon as possible. If you wait too long the issuing company may void the Visa card.
