1
Look at the tag and find out what material the coat is made out of. Baby Phat coats come in a variety of materials including faux leather, wool and puffer down-filled coats.
-
2
Wet a soft cloth and put a drop of liquid detergent on the cloth. Gently wipe down the coat. The dirt should come off faux leather (or pleather) with a simple wipe down. Wool and puffer coats will need a little more care, but the gentle wiping from the cloth will remove any loose dirt. In the case of wool or fabric materials, pat the dirt rather than wipe to prevent setting the stain.

3
Fill a sink or tub with lukewarm water and mix in detergent. If the coat is pleather, it will not need further cleaning. If it is wool, the coat requires hand-washing. Make sure any wool coat is washed in a wool-safe liquid detergent. Puffer coats can wash by hand or in the washing machine on the gentle cycle. Put the coat into the water and gently squeeze the coat. Allow it to soak for about five minutes. Repeat as necessary to remove the dirt.

4
Empty the dirty water and refill the tub or sink with clean water. In the case of a wool coat, the temperature must be the same lukewarm temperature as the wash water or as close to the temperature as possible to prevent shrinking. Put the coat in the water and gently move it around. This will remove any detergent. If necessary, repeat with fresh water.
-
5
Remove the coat from the water and press gently. Do not wring it. Set it out flat to dry. Avoid hanging the coat. For puffer coats, put it in the dryer with two tennis balls and dry it for the entire day to get the down evenly distributed and dry.
