Regardless of the color or pattern of the bandanna used, the tie of the hat is of utmost importance. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Fold your fabric in half into a triangle shape.

2
Place the longest side of the triangle along the top of the forehead, holding two points out to each side of the head. The fabric should sit low enough to cover any hair on the forehead, but also high enough above the eyes to see clearly.

3
Bring the left point of the triangle behind the head and over to the right ear and join with the point on the right side of the head. Pull the two points together behind the right ear.
-

Tips & Warnings
Silk is a good choice of fabric for the head wrap because it is easy to tie and leaves a flowing tail, as seen on many pirates. Cotton and linen are also good choices.
If you prefer the "tail" to hang in the back, pull the two points together and tie in the back as opposed to on the side.
If using silk, pull the front of the fabric down lower on the forehead to avoid the fabric slipping off the head.
Add a pirate hat on top of the bandanna for a different type of pirate look.
