Homemade Angel Costumes for Halloween

Making an angel costume doesn't require elaborate materials.

Making your own angel costume may seem intimidating, but it's actually quite simple. By using everyday items, you can easily create your own homemade angel costume. Typically, an angel costume includes a set of wings, a halo and a white body garment, such as a gown or dress. It's possible to use black instead of white to create a dark angel look. This may be more appropriate if you want to "scare" up your costume for Halloween. Whichever color you decide to use, your angel costume is sure to get a lot of compliments.

Things You'll Need

• 2 plastic white clothing hangers
• Packing tape
• White knee-high stockings
• Glitter spray (optional)
• Fabric glue (optional)
• Metallic pipe cleaner
• Circular object (vase or bowl)
• White dress

Instructions

1. Lay both plastic hangers down vertically next to each other on a flat surface. They should be mirror image of each other, with the hooks just touching. This will create two triangles on either side, mimicking wings.

2. Gently lift one hanger up and slide the hook over on top of the other hook until the top hook is completely covering the bottom hook. This brings the two triangles closer together. Use clear packing tape to secure the hooks in place.

3. Slide a knee-high white hose onto each triangle. The opening of the sock should reach the hooks, or middle of the wings. Layer on another two to three knee-highs to make the wings less transparent. Pull the openings of the socks together with your hands and tie a knot.

4. Use a glitter spray to spray glitter onto your angel wings. You can also use fabric glue to make swirls or to mimic feather patterns. Allow the wings to completely dry.

5. Use metallic pipe cleaner to create a halo. Wrap a piece of pipe cleaner around a circular object, such as a vase. Carefully slip the pipe cleaner off and twist the ends of the pipe cleaner together. Be careful not to ruin the circular shape of the pipe cleaner. Wear this on your head as your angel halo.

6. Don a white dress that falls to your desired length. Use a polyester elastic band to hold your wings in place. A polyester elastic band won't shrink if it gets wet, and not affected when exposed to salt water or chlorine, according to SewSassy website.

7. Take the polyester elastic band and use both hands to open up the band into a large oval shape. Wrap the band around the angel wings. The band will catch on the middle of the wings, leaving two smaller circular openings on either side of the wings.

8. Slide an arm through each band opening to put on your angel wings. Add your halo to make your homemade angel costume complete.
