How to Use a Rolled Hem Foot on My Sewing Machine
A rolled hem foot for a sewing machine produces a much narrower hem than does sewing a rolled hem by hand. The foot is also much easier to use than sewing by hand. These machine feet come in many sizes, so it is possible to sew a one millimeter rolled hem up to a six millimeter rolled hem. The size of the finished hem is dependent on the groove found on the underside of the rolled hem foot. The rolled hem is used for light- to medium weight fabrics. Heavy fabric does not feed through the foot scroll properly.

Fold over the raw edge of fabric about 1/8 inch where the hem will be placed. Press this folded edge lightly using an iron.

3
Place the end of the folded edge underneath the flat, back part of the rolled hem foot.
-
4
Pull the edge of fabric forward through the foot so that it moves into the curved section of the rolled hem foot. Slowly start stitching to make sure that a complete loop is sewn by the machine.

Tips & Warnings
If the start of the hem is not forming a complete loop, pull the raw edge toward the left of the rolled hem foot to help create the loop.
