Crib sheets can add a personal touch to the nursery.

As a gift or for your own baby, you can sew your own crib sheets to add a personal touch to the nursery without hurting your budget. Flannel is not only soft, but it's also a durable fabric, which makes it an excellent source for crib sheets. Select a fun and stylish flannel for your crib sheets to tie the nursery room together.

Things You'll Need

  • Flannel fabric, 70-by-45 inch
  • Scissors
  • Four feet of 1/2-inch wide elastic, cut into 12-inch pieces

Instructions

    • 1

      Prewash the fabric.

    • 2

Cut 9-inch squares from the corners of the length of flannel. Set aside squares. Take the remaining fabric and turn it wrong-side up. Sew the corners together.

    • 3

Fold up the edges about 1/4 inch and zigzag stitch all around the sides.

    • 4

Sew the elastic at the center of your corners with a zigzag stitch. Pull the elastic as you sew to allow the fitted sheet room to stretch. You should end with four corners with elastic attached. If desired, fold the fabric one more time to cover the elastic; sew again to hide the elastic, but isn't necessary since the elastic will be under the mattress.
